A shelf is used for collecting and arranging things. An empty shelf shows little.

Dodecaphonic principles arrange a composition for the shelf, based on its resonant frequencies.

Phonographic memories of six unique scenes are put into the shelf.

A guidebook describes one of those places: The cave is damp and warm, at the beginning still flat in the interior and then quickly becoming slippery and full of rough stones. If you are alone and without a good flashlight, an inspection of the 150 m deep cave is dangerous or even impossible. In the cave you can hear bats; additional occupants are big yellow spiders.

4 metal-shelves become a 12 channel sound system to carry audio-memories. Voltages are converted to mechanical movement of a piezoelectric polymer film, attached to and extended by the metalshelf.

Ein Regal dient zum Horten und Ordnen von Dingen. Viele dieser Dinge stehen stellvertretend für reale und fiktive Ereignisse oder sind selbst Auslagerungen bzw. Erweiterungen unseres Körpers oder unseres Gehirns. Ein leeres Regal erzählt wenig über dessen Besitzer.

Die Komposition ist zu einem Teil eine Sonifikation der Regale selbst. Ausgehend von den Grundfrequenzen der Regalflächen definiert ein dodekaphonisches Prinzip die Tonhöhen, Tondauern, Lautstärken und die zu klingenden Regalflächen aus jeweils 12 Möglichkeiten.

Der andere Teil besteht aus Auslagerungen meines auditiven Gedächtnisses. Ich projiziere sechs für mich bedeutende stereophone Aufnahmen besonderer Momente und Orte, auf die zwölf Flächen der Regale.

Ein Reiseführer beschreibt einen der sechs Orte: Die Höhle ist feuchtwarm, anfangs im Inneren noch flach, dann jedoch schnell grobsteinig und schmierig-glitschig. Alleine und ohne eine gute Taschenlampe ist eine Begehung der sich etwa 150 m in die Tiefe erstreckenden Höhle gefährlich bzw. nicht möglich. In der Höhle hört man Fledermäuse; weitere Bewohner sind große, gelbe Spinnen.

Echo Rotation

A ‘moving head’ light is adapted out of its club context and is used to
emit sharp pulses of sound instead of light. The reflections of the sound
waves behave similarly to light by delivering explicit information about
their surroundings. The speaker rotates on two axes and thereby reveals
the total architectural space of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt - an
invitation to listen to the building and discover one’s own echo location
competence.

Gin Gin

A whisky-fountain for Jimmy Zurek´s groupshow Gin-Palace in Vienna.

A waterproof speaker, attached to a cocktailglass generates different patterns on the surface of the whisky. Low frequency sine tones create moving shapes, triggered by the sound of different glasses clinking which are played back on the glasscube above by a transducer, using glass as a membrane.
